Just curious on thoughts about this. I really liked that 10g, as compared to 9i, would fit on a single CD. Now we are back to three CD's again.
Has everyone gone to DVD's now, so it no longer matters?
But why was such a large increase needed?

It's unlikely that Oracle added that much code to 11g. My guess is they haven't stripped the symbols from the executable files (required for further debugging).
Current component sizes:
Database 11g - 1.72 GB
Client - 437 MB
Database Examples (formerly Companion) - 436 MB
Clusterware - 244654895
Gateways - 233 MB
HTTP Server 319 MB
