Hello, after a RAID crash, my installation of Oracle server is gone.

The situation is that I have .ORA files, but need a new installation to connect to them and view content.

Who can help me (and my team)?

Server: windows 2003
Oracle installation: version 10g, release 1
size of database: approx. 800 Gb

The .ORA files were on a SAN-server, so they didn't crash together with the RAID crash. All the help-topics we find is to recover after a total crash, but in this case we have the files, but just can't access them.

We already have made a new installation of Oracle version 10g, release 1

Any help will be appreciated, especially if you can point us to some Step by Step recover plan...

Do you have the pfile/spfile, password file and network config files (ie. tnsnames.ora, listener.ora, etc.)? If your control files, redo logs, archive logs & datafiles were safe on the SAN, then you should be able to place the config files mentioned above to their appropriate location in the ORACLE_HOME and create a new Oracle Windows service with oradim.

For oradim syntax issue oradim -? at the command prompt. If you need to recreate the password file, you would use the orapwd utility. Just type orapwd and hit return at the command prompt for syntax.

netca can be used to recreate your network files and if you don't have a backup of the spfile/pfile, then you'll have to create a pfile by hand. You can use the alert log (if you have one left) to help configure the parameters for that.

Those steps would be in your Disaster Recovery Procedures document.
Where/who is the resident DBA?
Do you have a Support contract with Oracle?
If so, open a Service Request.
Which files were lost?
Where are your backup tapes?
Do you have a recent copy of the alert logfile?

Hello!

we managed to recover the database!

We installed a new Oracle Server and replaced the ORA files with the ones we had. Furhtermore we tackled some problems like a missing password file.

In this way, we solved it. Thanks for the input!
