hi Folks
I am working on lobs. For this I need to create a directory storing my text files where the db picks the file upon request by the user.

Problem is I am unable to view my created directory

as 'create or replace directory as 'C:\CV'.

I searched in my server, but unable to find it.

Please throw light on this.
thanks in advance,
SURYA

Post your Oracle version.
Post (copy and paste) what you did.
How can we know if you execute the correct statements?

Michel

1/ Use SQL*Plus and copy and paste.
2/ You say you don't see but what is the query you executed and its result. Same thing copy and paste.
3/ Is the user that creates the directory the one that tries to see it?
4/ You didn't post your Oracle version (4 decimals)

Michel

I can't (and didn't want to) download a doc file as any file that can contain a virus.

Only txt and bmp file are safe.

Once again, use SQL*Plus and copy and paste your screen.

Michel

it looks to me like you have not created a directory on your operating system, you have created a DIRECTORY OBJECT in your database which is simply a pointer to a directory on the os, which MUST be created using OS commands not SQL commands.

To summarise and emphasise

create directory directory_name AS 'directory location'
Does NOT create a directory on the operating system.

More importantly

Quote:
create or replace directory as 'C:\CV'

would give you an error message which is why Michel has asked you to copy and paste your sql session
As
Quote:
Thats the only statement executed in toad. I got the mesaage as directory created and able to see the same in all_directories also.
Would not happen with the code that you supplied in your first post.
Please be more accurate.
