Hi
I have a form with french prompts i compile it using f60gen on unix is it necessary to change the NLS_LANG setting on unix to french or is it fine if i compile in english

Have you tried both options? What happened? I am confident that you can compile in any language as it is the runtime environment that is the critical factor in determining which language is seen by the user.
