how safe is the usage of the ignore=y parameter on an import if it gives u an error regarding tablespaces already being created

I would say it is virtually standard practice. Most people pre-create tablespaces before running an import. That allows you to create them where you want and with whatever size you want.

No it will avoid some you errors due to precreation.

thing is i did a full export of the database so as to move it to a new machine and the database was created on the new machine and tablespaces created but on importing the dumps errors were encountered whereby it was sasid that the tablespaces were already created

Import returned tablespaces already created and terminated unsuccessfuly, so i would like ot know if by usinig the ignore=y parameter i will have a safe import
