Is it not possible to select system owned tables from
this schema
?



I have logged into the folowing schema

username :Scott
Passsowrd :tiger
host :tracer

When i give the following

SQL> select * from sys.obj$;
select * from sys.obj$
*
ERROR at line 1:
ORA-00942: table or view does not exist


Is it not possible to select system owned tables from
this schema

You'd be able to do the SELECT after the proper GRANT had been issued.

I suggest you visit http://tahiti.oracle.com & then Read The Final Concepts Manual available there about how database permissions are managed.

For that you have select any table privelege and

set one parameter to true in your spfile

but i just saw it here no specification that its obsolete or deprecated.

My fault.
I always forget this is the ONLY parameter that is in upper case.
Maybe to hide it as it is evil. Grin
