Are you in ARCHIVE LOG or NOARCHIVE LOG mode?
Check LOG_MODE in V$DATABASE.
What is your version?
What is the value of your parameter log_archive_start?

Michel

I am extremely sorry that i have written that my database is in archivelog mode , my mistake in typing .

SQL> select log_mode from v$database;

LOG_MODE
------------
NOARCHIVELOG

SQL> select * from v$version;

BANNER
----------------------------------------------------------------
Oracle Database 10g Enterprise Edition Release 10.1.0.3.0 - Prod
PL/SQL Release 10.1.0.3.0 - Production
CORE 10.1.0.3.0 Production
TNS for Linux: Version 10.1.0.3.0 - Production
NLSRTL Version 10.1.0.3.0 - Production

SQL> show parameter log_archive_start

NAME TYPE VALUE
------------------------------------ ----------- ------------------------------
log_archive_start boolean FALSE
SQL>

But the problem is the same, as i have discussed earlier

Connect as sysdba and execute: "archive log list".
This will not correct the problem, this is just to know what is your environment to make a diagnosis.

Do you have anything like an error or another message just before the first "ARC1: Archiving disabled".
I remember I had this one day several years ago but I can't remember what was the case.

Do you still have the messages?

Michel

use FALSE without ', it is a boolean value not a string:
ALTER SYSTEM SET DG_BROKER_START=FALSE;
