Hi,

I am using oracle 10g database.
I want to change the characterset from AL16UTF16 to AL32UTF8.
How can I do it?
How can I test the same after changing it?

export full
recreate the database with new character set
import full

ok..

But cant I change the characterset after creation of database using the below alter statement:

ALTER DATABASE CHARACTER SET al32utf8

when I tried it I got an error saying:

ORA-12712: new character set must be a superset of old character set

can you suggest something

The error message is quite clear: you can't.
