Help Smile This is weird. I create table A in my database, I create a public synonum A for this table. I log into a remote database and select records from my table (table A). Its fine, I can select records. But, if I try to describe this table I get nothing. Cannot describe this table via a dblink. Any ideas why?

Implementation limitation which is version dependent, IIRC.

Oracle 9i. If I do DESCRIBE USER.TABLE@DB_LINK I can describe the table. But if I do DESCRIBE TABLE@DB_LINK I get no description? Why? If there is a public synonym created on the table and I can select as follows just fine: SELECT * FROM TABLE@DB_LINK without specifying the user?

I can sell you a bridge if that would help you to get over it.
It is what it is.
If it bothers you enough, file a Service Request with Oracle.
Keep in mind that DESCRIBE is a SQL*Plus command & not part of the SQL standard language.

umm...nothing to get over, I was just wondering why I had to specify the user when I describe a table via a dblink. If that is what that is then be it..I think therefore I am Smile Anyways, thank you for your kind response.
