Do you know what is a materialized view and what is its purpose and use?
If not the first read: Overview of Materialized Views

From my experience, if you are going to access a table over a database link, use of a materialized view will speed things up.

A couple of actual reproducable benchmarks would terminate unsubstantiated speculation by everyone.
I'm thinking of SQL statements similar to those posted by Tom Kyte on htp://asktom.oracle.com

It may be:
- faster
- slower
- equal

It depends on so many things and you give us so few.

IMHO - the real question is:
Is the MV applicable?

What type of queries you are running?
