I am fairly new using Oracle. I just installed Oracle 10G. I am trying to use SQL Plus but I can not figure out what user id, password and host string to use to access >sql prompt. When installing, I remember that the SID was orcl. I also unlocked all the accounts and changed passwords. Don't know where to start.

try lo login as follows :

Quote:

sqlplus "/ as sysdba"

For this you have to be on the machine where the database is.

This will log you on as a sysdba. From there set the passwords for the users/schema's you need.

btw : Did you only install the orale software or did you also create a database.

In the first case logging in has no meaning since there is no database (only software).

Are those operating system account? or DB-accounts?

sqlplus "<username>/<password>@<SID>" gets you into the database.

Also is your listener properly configured?
