How can I get the HELP for commands like SELECT, UPDATE, INSERT, DELETE..... The existing HELP command does not support all these. If I write 'HELP UPDATE', it gives an error. Please suggest what should I do.

Ask your dba to run the help creation script:
-- sqlplus system/system_password @helpbld.sql helpus.sql

The files are under $ORACLE_HOME/sqlplus/admin/help/ on Unix
