Hi..

I am using solaris with oracle 10g. i have created a database with non-ASM. But now i have to migrate it to ASM mode. I have a single server and having a mount point /Oracle_ASM to store asm files. i have created 6 files at /Oracle_ASM/db01/Disk1..6 with the command:
mkfile 5g Disk1 upto 6
i have change the owner and group owner to oracle:oinstall
I have define the asm_diskstring='/Oracle_ASM/db01/Disk1','/Oracle_ASM/db01/Disk2','/Oracle_ASM/db01/Disk3','/Oracle_ASM/db01/Disk4','/Oracle_ASM/db01/ Disk5','/Oracle_ASM/db01/Disk6' in initasm.ora file.
Now when i am trying to create Diskgroup command, it showing error:

create diskgroup DGdb01 NORMAL REDUNDANCY

I was using Solaris 10 (8 processors, 32 gigs RAM 12 Disks ) and could not get Automatic Storage Management to see ANY of the disks. Perhaps try a Google search, or try askTom.com. I really liked Solaris but decided not to fight it and skipped ASM. I used OFS instead.
Good luck.
