Hi,

I am settig my .profile file like below

PS1='$HOST:$PWD'

from the above where can i find the path where system variable PWD is declared?

Well, you do not mention OS name or shell name & they might make a difference.
On a couple of RH Linux boxes I just "tested", it appears that $PWD is "maintained" by the "cd" command.
For me it always contains my present working directory (pwd).

Since your other post mentions SunOs 5.8, then you may want to refer to man ksh.
