Is snapshot and materialized views are same? If not, what are the differents between two?

Originally they were called Snapshots, but as Oracle added functionality they realised that word was no longer an accurate description (and was also possibly confusing given the "snapshot too old" error which refers to something completely different), so from 8i onwards they became known as Materialized Views. The keyword "Snapshot" is still supported for backward compatibility. CREATE SNAPSHOT and CREATE MATERIALIZED VIEW do the same thing.
