Does anyone here know if / how you can change an HR contact to an employee?

For example, Joe Bloggs is interviewed, his basic details are entered and his person type is a Contact.

If the individual returns to the company 6 months later and is offered a job, can the same HR record be updated to reflect the person type as Employee?

At the moment our HR dept have a large number of duplicates on the system where someone is entered asa contact, then entered again when they become an employee.

Any advice / assistance greatly appreciated.
