Hi all,

Is it possible to re-install oracle10g in the same server with the same oracle username?

If so, How to configure and differentiate with the already existing default profile (created for 1st installation ) before installation.

Please explain with the steps.

OS : sun solaris 5.8
DB : Oracle 10g

Thanks and Regards,
Prashanth

You mean, you want to have two seperate oracle installations in the same machine?
If so, yes. All you need is a new ORACLE_HOME.
That is it.
but why?

You can have two different PROFILEs for the same user.
but you do not need it always.
Just export it during the installation.
export ORACLE_HOME=neworacle_home
export ORACLE_BASE=neworacle_base
export PATH=$PATH:$ORACLE_HOME/bin

Do the installation. you can use the same listener (used for OLD_HOME) or create a new listener in NEW_HOME.
It is upto you. YOu just need to remember to set the correct ORACLE_HOME / profile before working on the server.
Later, You can work (well, most of the operations) from a remote client by using the appropriate
tnsentry like
scott/tiger@db1_in_oracle_home1
or
scott/tiger@db2_in_oracle_home2
