Hi friends,

I have some doubts regarding session cached cursors.
I have read on one site that:
Qn: is the actual maximum number of open cursors = open_cursors + session_cached_cursors? Or is the maximum number of open cursors simply = open_cursors
Ans given : The actual max is open_cursors. It is the hard limit.

On another site:
You can set SESSION_CACHED_CURSORS to higher than OPEN_CURSORS, lower than OPEN_CURSORS, or anywhere in between.

Q1: Which one is true?

Q2: If application don't use bind variables then even if u set sesion_cached_cursors it won't give performance improvement.
Is it true?

Q3: If we set session_cached_cursors say 50,then approx. how much memory will it consume( in bytes)? How can we calculate it approx.?

Please clarify.
Thanx.

Hi,

Yes, I have gone through these sites .
I think for oracle 9i ,
The actual max is open_cursors. It is the hard limit.
& for oracle 10g,
You can set SESSION_CACHED_CURSORS to higher than OPEN_CURSORS, lower than OPEN_CURSORS, or anywhere in between.
