hi all,

what's difference between admin and developer
in the following points :-

- in duties
- which is larger working than the other
- which is harder working than the other
- to become good admin or developer , what I will do , and what I will study whether to admin or to developer
- in chance of work

because I am confused to being admin or developer ....

thanks,

This a WAY to broad to answer, but I'd like to use an analogy.

The developers are like termites and the admin is like the queen termite.

>> the admin is like the queen termite
But i do not lay any eggs or spend my lifetime in a maternity ward Smile.
Just kidding.
Fun Apart, Joy simply put.

I whole heartedly agree with that.
With respect to skill set/technical know-how, i have seen very less differences between a good developer/dba.
It is just the assumed responsibilities that come along with the title differ.
For example, A developer is not expected to do backup/recovery, though it does not take big learning curve to do it.
A DBA is not expected to code for a living but it is assumed that DBA understands the sql/plsql/basic programming. The primary responsibility of the DBA is to protect the data.

Cross question.
Which is a better?
Being an abled mechanic who can use all the tools at his disposal to keep the the car running
or
an efficient racing driver who actually knows to make use of all
all the technology and navigate it? (and steal the show Smile )

PS:
As usual, i googled and ended up here and eventually in AskTom.
