we have newly installed oracle 8i server, previously I used
to have the same one..and I used to export tables from my client,
and import them here at work..

just last month oracle 8i server was newly installed as
my system was attacked with virus...the version is

SQL*Plus: Release 8.1.5.0.0 - Production on Tue Dec 5 10:20:18 2006

(c) Copyright 1999 Oracle Corporation. All rights reserved.

Connected to:
Oracle8i Enterprise Edition Release 8.1.5.0.0 - Production
With the Partitioning and Java options
PL/SQL Release 8.1.5.0.0 - Production

now after installing it, for the first time i tried to import
my tables, but i am getting the following message

C:\Oracle\Ora81\BIN>import system/manager file=c:\dec06.dmp fromuser=apmc touser=scott
'import' is not recognized as an internal or external command,
operable program or batch file.

similarly when i type exp command, i am getting the same
message

can anyone please tell me how to overcome this?

hi,

you have to set you "PATH" variable.
like
cmd>set path=C:\Oracle\Ora81\BIN

then you try.

Taj

why this error? do u think the .dmp is corrupt?

if so, how to find out whether this dmp file is corrupt or not?

C:\>set path=c:\oracle\ora81\bin

C:\>imp system/manager file=c:dec06.dmp fromuser=apmc touser=scott

Export file created by EXPORT:V07.03.04 via conventional path

Warning: the objects were exported by APMC, not by you

. . importing table "MED_REG_CER" 17380 rows imported
Import terminated successfully without warnings.

C:\>

so u see there...the forward slash is not necessary
but what is the significance of set path here?

since oracle is newly installed i have to give set path
from dos prompt?

can u please tell me the significance of "set path"
cause that seems to solve my problem here

hi,

PATH variable.
Environment variable to specify the path to search for executables, and DLLs in Windows. Typically includes ORACLE_HOME/bin

HOPE THIS HELPS
