Hi there,
Could anyone please help me? I am trying to create a new variable based on a combination of certain characters in the value of existing variable.

For example, I have a data "ABCDEFG" as Value1 and I would like to create Value2 that looks like "ABC__ F". How do I do that?

I could do substring(ltrm(rtrim(VALUE1,1,3))) to get the first 3 characters but I don't know how to combine the later part to the first part.

Could anyone please help??

You do realise this is an ORACLE forum, do you?
The former answer you got was Oracle-specific as well..
