Hi,

My Oracle 7i database NLS_LANG=AMERICAN_AMERICA.US7ASCII
and oracle 9i database NLS_LANG=AMERICAN_AMERICA.UTF8

I was trying to connect from 7i database to 9i I am getting
the below error.

Error accessing package DBMS_APPLICATION_INFO
ERROR:
ORA-06550: line 1, column 40:
PLS-00553: character set name is not recognized
ORA-06550: line 0, column 0:
PL/SQL: Compilation unit analysis terminated

But its connecting to 9i database.

I want to connect 9i database from 7i database and want to insert/update a row in 9i db.

I just want know is there any effect in 9i db if i insert the row.

Please let us know how to ignore the above error messages.

I can't change the character set any of the dbs bconz its prod dbs.

Help me on this issue.

Thanks,
Siva

If I'm not wrong, you'll have to create an intermediate Oracle 8 instance which will be some kind of a gateway; there will be two hops: Oracle 7 -> Oracle 8 -> Oracle 9. I'm quite certain that direct database link between 7 and 9 isn't possible.
