i shutdown my instance database by tying
SQL> shutdown
from the sqlplus after connect sys as sysdba
then when trying to startup the database again
SQL> startup
it not started and give me the following error
ora- 00119 invalid specification for system parameter local-listener
note: this instance shared the $ORACLE_HOME
with another 9i database instance, but diff listener.ora

When give a choice of believe Oracle or beliving a noobie, I'll believe Oracle.
First rule of Oracle, is to believe all error messages.
How many different tnsnames.ora files really exist on this box?
