I have datafile it's size 4001MB and only 16% is used
, so I am trying to reduce upto 2001MB , but i could not
and I got error.
when I checked HWM for datafile,I get 3901MB, so how can i reduce HWM? because 16% of 4001 is 640M...
pleas ehelp me for this


alter database datafile '/u22/oradata/tstar/data1_10.dbf' resize 3001m

ERROR at line 1:
ORA-03297: file contains used data beyond requested RESIZE value

The short answer is "You can NOT reduce the HWM".
It is what it is.
The only "solution" is to move all the object out of this tablespace & then drop this tablespace.

If you dont't mind can i ask you why it was happen?
am i waisting space?

ther is no other way to get this free space back?
