how do i scan a sentense for special charecters like /, -, ., ,, or anything like that and convert the immediate character to upper and also some keywords like 'symantec', 'microsoft', 'canon', 'oracle'should also be converted to caps....PLEASE

Try this one out...


CREATE TABLE scanning (NAME VARCHAR2(30));

INSERT INTO scanning VALUES('this is / my world');

SELECT UPPER(NAME) FROM scanning WHERE NAME LIKE '%/%'
