Oracle Release[ 26 votes ]
1. Pre 7 0 / 0%
2. Any Oracle 7 0 / 0%
3. Oracle 8 0 / 0%
4. Oracle 8i 3 / 12%
5. Oracle 9i R1 2 / 8%
6. Oracle 9i R2 16 / 62%
7. Oracle 10g R1 0 / 0%
8. Oracle 10g R2 5 / 19%

Lets have a poll.
I notied that the SQL Developer forum on OTN has a poll about what release of Oracle people use, and I thought it'd be interesting to see how our results compared to theirs.

So, what release of Oracle do you primarily use?

Well, we use the range from 8.1.7 to 10gR2. Which one should I select?

Is there any way of letting people vote multiple times on a poll?

Hmm, still not restrictive enough (we really use more than one release) but I'll pick one.

I'm with Maarten, I don't know how to answer. I use 7.3, 8i, 9i and 10g. I use them pretty much equally, so I am going to do a very unscientific method to choose.

You're still using 7.3.

Wow.

If you can think of a way to allow multiple postings to a poll.....

I suppose I could create 3 polls and manually collate the results.

You're still using 7.3.

Wow.
Although it had its limits, I remember it being a stable release.

Unless of course you were using the CBO:) I remember 7.3 being a bit trigger-happy on hash-joins if you set the initialisation param to enable them.

6.0, now THAT was stable.

7.3.4 wasn't too bad with the CBO.
I worked at a place that had had such a bad experience with the 7.3.0 CBO that they were running 8.1.7 RBO, and planning to go to 9i like that too.

Dag nabit, I hate when I write a good message and then I get the "no message body" posting, because I gave a way some good trade secrets. Sorry, you don't get a second shot at those.

Indeed we do have some 7.3 instances along with our 8i, 9i and 10g instances, but thankfully, Corporate has mandated that all databases must be up to current release, so after all the red tape and dust settles, we'll be there. It's just a little restricting because I forget sometimes what functionality doesn't exist in v7.3.

confused now....Trade secrets?

You should have fun with the upgrade path from 7.3 to 10. That sounds like a long days work.

Luckily it's not my headache. Corporate is the one doing the upgrading. I think they are just going to export and then import, but I don't have to concern myself, unless of course it doesn't work Wink
