Hi there, I am looking to install 9i database release 2 (enterprise) on an x86 Linux box and was wondering which Linux distribution and version i should use .....ideally a free distro but i understand the kernel version and software versions of glibc etc are very important and i dont want to make the mistake of installing a non compatable version

any advice would be greatly appreciated....

I installed 9i rel.2 on a gentoo linux 2005.1

so I guess it's also no problem to install it on a gentoo 2006.0 (latest release)!
regardless of oracle installations gentoo is a really great linux distribution anyway...(very easy package system)...
and following link tells you how to install oracle http://www.akadia.com/services/ora_linux_install_10g.html
I know it's for 10g but can be easy adopted to 9i
