I have Oracle 10g database &client and Oracle 9i client on the same machine

before I installed oracle 9i client, The NET manager didn't return any error message when i test the connectivity to Oracle 10g

After I install oracle 9i client. It seems everything only communicate with 9i only.

The last installed Oracle Home is probably the default.

You can change the default by running the "Oracle Home Selector" utility or by editing some registry keys.

After I include the Oracle 10g & 9i client in system path, it works.
why can't 10g client communicate with 9i database?
