We have just installed this new Oracle OSDI and are having trouble sorting out automation as database startup and shutdown messages are not piped to the address space or system log. All our automation up until now has been built on trapping such messages then triggering other events.
How is anyone else managing to schedule backups or suchlike without these messages.

We are using a REXX EXEC to startup/shutdown our ODSI databases. The EXEC traps messages from the server and displays its own messages on the console for the automation package to trap.

We do something similar. Since we startup with a started task and shutdown via a batch job we have a last step which sets an OPC resource on or off.
Another way is via a jobstep with a WTO to put a message to the console which can be trapped. If you want a copy of a simple Assembler WTO let me know.
