I want to use OEM to manage and monitor the databases. I have Oracle OEM document on hand. But I still get lost.

Please guide me to use OEM/OMS with the following example:

I have 3 notes: note1, note2, note3, and OEM to manage these three notes.

1. Do I need to install OEM server in every note? Or just one OMS to manage all?
2. I forgot the super administrator password for OEM console, how can I recover/change it?

Any detailed information about this topic would be appreciated. Thanks.

Is that a typo?
were you trying to mean NODE and typed as NOTE?

you dont manage nodes using OEM.
You manage only the databases residing in these nodes using OEM.

so,
first install the databaes.
make sure you have intelligent agent running in all nodes.
make tnsconnections between all nodes.
Install OEM repository.
start OMS.
detect the nodes.
detect the listeners/databases.
do your business.

THe only docuemnt that ever talks about OEM is oracle documentation.
and ALL information you need is provided there.
Look into Enterprise Manager Configuration Guide.

By default the password should oem_temp.

To reset the sysman password,
stop all OMS services
connect to repository
and run $ORACLE_HOME/sysman/admin/vduresetsysman.sql

Thanks Mahesh,

Yes... it is typo. I mean Nodes.

That is great. I installed the OMS and repository, and I starts OMS, all the Intelligent Agents in the nodes.

I connected to OMS through the OEM console, discovered the databases, but there is only one database can be detected, which is the OMS server database.

Could you please tell me what is missing? What do I need to do in order to add all the databases in the nodes to the OEM console?

Thanks... Appreciate your reply very much!

detect the other nodes.
then detect the databases.
post the specific error!.
look into oms.log or nohup files
make sure you have tnsconnections enabled between all nodes ( databases). first try connecting using sqlplus.
then try OEM.

Thanks Mahesh!

Node discovery will detect the databases.

I am not sure what the tnsconnection means here. If I use tnsping IP-address, the connections are good... do I need to set up the tns names in OMS server?

from oms-database-machine, try to connect to the other databases using sqlplus.
TNSPING will check the availablity of listener only.

http://download-west.oracle.com/docs/cd/B10501_01/em.920/a96670/ch_navig.htm#287

and look at the logs and post the exact error messages.

I am able to use sqlplus to access any database in the nodes.

There is no error from the oms log. When I detected the nodes, there is no error poped up too. Interesting, the http server in the nodes are detected, but not the databases. What should be the reason?

Thanks! Excellent! I got it.

I stoped the Intelligent Agents, then did the detection, yes it allows me to manuual detection in the case, otherwise no. interesting.

When I did the mannual detection, I find the OEM tried to detect SID ORCL in the node... I corrected the SID, the problem is solved!

Thank you very much!!! Your help is really apprecited!
