First of please mention whcih particular version of Access and Oracle are you using. You can use the Oracle Migration Assisstant (Oracle 8) to migrate your Access Database to Oracle Database. The whole procedure is pretty easy and simple. The wizard guides you step by step and the whole data is converted to Oracle format quite easily.
If you still have doubts, feel free to contact me.

bye

Hi there,
I would say you will have to use Oracle 8 for the migration assisstant. I have used the assisstant which is unfortunately not available in Oracle 8i but comes with Oracle 8. The Access files (having .mdb extension) can be easily converted to Oracle database quite easily but you wil have to use Oracle 8 and once you have transferred the data in to Oracle 8, then it can be easily read in Oracle 8i ( I have done that). As far as Access version is concerned ( for safer side) save your Access database in Access 97 format and then use the migration assisstant of Oracle 8.

I hope this answers your question but if you still have any problems feel free to contact me.

Bye

Hassan

Hi there,
If you dont have access to Oracle 8 for migrating your data, let me know how big is your Access file, probably I can help you here by migrating your Access .mdb file to Oracle and then emailing you ( if thats ok with you)...

Do let me know

Hi there,

I happen to be in the same point, but with Oracle 9i Developer Suite. I“ve been trying to import an Access 97 Database into Oracle 9i but can“t find the way. Should I understand that Oracle 8 Access Importation Wizard does not come with Oracle 9i? In that case, is importing the DB into Oracle 8 and then importing it into Oracle 9i the only way to do it? Isn“t there an easier way for a beginner? Thanks a lot for your help.

I just ran across this link on oracles website. I'm getting ready to give it a try myself. The Migration Workbench is 131MB and the plug-ins (one for each database you want to migrate from) are about 15MB each.
Good luck.

Thanks a million for yor quick reply.Fact is I`m a beginner in Oracle.
Presently doing an internship with a firm migrating from Access application
to Oracle enviroment. And I`m supposed to do this as a project. You can
imagine my fears if this fails. Is there anyway I can get in touch with
Grant per phone. Live in Berlin and will call regardless of where you are.
Thanks in advance.
Sam
PS:Grant can you please send me that message again. I sort of lost it.

hii,
if ur using oracle 8i personal edition ,
then use the oracle navigator.
here follows the steps.
1)first of all export ur acess table to text format(comma seperated type)
2)then convert it to csv(comma seperated value)file just by ren facility in the command prompt.
3)now go to oracle navigator and select import from file option, and select the csv file followed by a single click on upload and ur job is over.
note:- if still u face amy problem ..then better u drop the original contraints from athe access table .

Just use the Oracle Migration Workbench (free download from the oracle website).

Hi,

I have tried this tool Data Loader website: http://www.dbload.com
Works great for transferring individual tables and regular migrations.

As someone else has 'raised this thread from the dead' I will add my 2 cents worth. To import an application from MS Access to Oracle DB, you really should use the Wizard available with 10g XE.
