Install Oracle 8.0.5 on Win 2003 Server Standard and Win XP SP1.

I have installed Oracle 8.0.5 on Win 2003 Server Standard and Win XP SP1.
The instalation finished Ok, but when de system start, one errors is generated by OracleStart Service.
( STRTDB80.EXE ).

This is not occurs on Win 2000 Server and Win 2000 prof.

Any suggestions?. Thank you.

I have the same problem. In win2k3 standard and Enterprise, the installation and the db work fine, but the boring error at the startup.......

any news?

What does the service Oraclestart anyway? I also want to use Oracle 8.0.5 on WS2003 and i also get the error.

Yes I managed to get it installed and was running the system for the last one year or so with the ORAstart80 error and running the LIstner80 setrvice untill last week some one tried to install an ADSL modem. Since then I am unable to connect to the server from XP clients. However the database is running and I can connect to the DB on the server throug the Listner process. Only the clients do not connect and I canot figur out why. Can some one plese help

I know this is a late reply, but I found also nowhere help but here is a way to run Oracle 8.1.7 on Win2003. We run this for over one year now in production with legacy systems without any problems. Maybe this helps somebody:

Connect to your Win2003-Server via VNC only or direct on the Console-Window in front of the server. Via RDP installation and startup will fail or not work correctly.

Copy Oracle-Setup-Files to local Machine incl. Patches etc.

Start setup.exe

Install Oracle Server "minimal" without example Database.
Then Reboot.

Stop all Oracle-Services in Windows-Services

Start Patch-Installation. If there is Error about OCI.dll manually rename OCI.dll to OCI-old.dll in Oracle-Directory and retry. Then again reboot.

Thats all. Configure listener.ora and tnsnames.ora, reboot - thats the way we did with success.

We know that there is no support for Oracle 8 on Win2003.
