To anybody,
I successfully installed oracle 8i on P4 compaq system. But whenever I tried to login with SCOTT/TIGER or SYSTEM/MANAGER it is displaying the error NO. ORA-12638 with message like 'Conventional retrieval failed'. Ofcourse I tried on HCL BusyBee assembled system too. Kindly anybody help.

are u using OS authentication?
and
make sure u have set SQLNET.AUTHENTICATION_SERVICES=NONE in sqlnet.ora.
