I don't expect an answer to this question, but I've just spent all afternoon trying to do something with SQLPlus and PL/SQL that should have been simple and I need to vent. My question is:
HOW DID ORACLE GET SO @#&* BIG WITH SUCH LAME TOOLS?

Although there are some (like Tom Kyte) that swear by SQL*Plus and refuse to use any other tool, I firmly believe you have to find another tool to be productive with Oracle.
There are many full-featured products out there (TOAD, SQL Navigator, PL/SQL Developer, etc.). A free, limited but fairly featured version of TOAD is available at www.toadsoft.com.
Don't tear your hair out with SQL*Plus. Actually, the only time I ever use it is to cut/paste examples on this and other forums.
