Hi there,

What is the diffrence between pushing and purging.

I think pushing is when changes get pushed from one master site to the other, is that correct. I can't find a descent description of both. Hope anyone out there knows the diffrence.

Another thing. My master sites must be asynchronous only, and must start replicating 12:00am, that is on midnight only. Where do you change that setting. I know in the :

DBMS_DEFER_SYS.SCHEDULE_PUSH
DBMS_DEFER_SYS.SCHEDULE_PURGE executables, but what sould the NEXT_DATE and the INTERVAL be ??

Another question, when I install oracle with advanced replication, on every master site, should I still run the catrep.sql script ?? (I don't think so).

Hope anyone can help.

hi Ripper,
AFAIK to remove the transactions from the deftran queue so as to prevent it from becoming too large, purging is required.Purging does not replicate data between the two sites. It is just a clean up procedure.
hope this helps.please check out the white papers at this site(www.dbspecialists.com/).I found them to be quite useful

regds,

To my best knowledge you can not do MULTIMASTER REPLICATION with standard addition. It requires Enterprise edition. All other kinds of replication like Snapshot, Basic should be done using Standard Edition.

Hello, We need to distribute Oracle transactions to the other rdbms as mentioned above. Does Oracle Replication provide this kind of funtionalities? Or we need to use the Transparent Gateway stuff? Is there any other better better ways?
Thanks
Chuck
