Dear Professionals,

I have requirement to provide scanning of a document/card on click of button from Oracle forms and save it to a path on network with a file number.

I appreciate, if you please provide your expert help on this.

Hope i have clarified the requirement properly.

Thanks in advance.

Oracle Forms does not have any "native" methods for interacting with scanner hardware. Your best bet would be to create a Window Batch file or Windows Scripting file that will open your scanner software and then call this script/batch file from Forms using a HOST (Forms 6i or lower) or CLIENT_HOST (Forms 9i or higher) call from your Form. This will simply start your scanner software. Your user will be required to ensure the file is saved to the correct location on the network.

How should we know what software you are using?

I don't think so.

[EDIT] On a second thought, see whether you can call TWAIN.EXE; *maybe* it is your savior.

Its true that Oracle Forms does not have any native Scanner built-in/method for Document Capture.

If you are using web-based Oracle Forms, then you can always build your own Java Bean and integrate it with your Forms applications that capture documents from any TWAIN device and allows you to store, retrieve, view, manipulate, transform, etc, your image documents.

This can certainly take a long time & weeks/months of effort to build & test.

There are commercial Java Bean solutions available if your company is willing to invest a little in ready-made & proven solutions out there.

Please visit http://www.longbridge.biz/ezy-imaging-solution and read through its offering. You can always search for other similar solutions, but Ezy Imaging Solution is built to integrate directly with any web-based Oracle Forms applications with no 3rd party software required to be installed. It can seamlessly integrate into your application to handle whatever Document Capture & Imaging requirements that you need.

Hopefully you find this posting useful.
