I am accessing the data through a dblink to update the table but it was throwing the following error sometimes even if the dblink is up and running.

ORA-02068: following severe error from xxxxxx
ORA-03113: end-of-file on communication channel.

The version of remote database is Oracle 11.2 and local database is Oracle 10.2.

With ORA-03113 you have a trace file, refer to it.

I am just thinking that rather than accessing data through dblink and update local table, why not have a materialized view? Let's just Oracle handle and leave the manual activity to MV. Just a suggestion.

I believe Materialized View from 10.2 to 11.2 will not work. I remember trying that at one time and it didn't work. I don't know if it was a known bug or just not implemented for 10g to 11g, or whether a patch fixed it.

I am sorry, my reason was not really helpful, but hopefully it will help out in some way.

Eventhough materilized view must have to use database link and then the update the local table is also required.

To use MV was just my suggestion for your process, not solution for the issue regarding dblink. MV is what is meant for your requirement.

Regarding the dblink issue, I suggest you probe the same questions to the remote side DBA.
