We currently backup to disk and have a 14 day retention. I am now looking to
expand on this and take the last backup of the month and back it up to tape
and keep the retention for 3 years.

Can somebody provide me an example of how this maybe done?

Thanks in advance to all who answer

If you have your MML configured OK (good luck with that) and a recovery catalog, RMAN can automate all of this. Launch an SBT channel, and then BACKUP BACKUPSET...KEEP UNTIL...
