Welcome to the forum. Please read our OraFAQ Forum Guide and please read How to use [code] tags and make your code easier to read

There is not and will not be a release of Developer 6 that is certified for use with Windows 8.x. However ,that does not mean that Developer 6 will not work. Try to install it! You are probably not the first person to have done this.If you have problems, perhaps someone will be able to help.

Thanks. Will do the search.

Question:

1) If i use Oracle Developer 6.0 on win-xp to run a test program "MyTest_strt.fmx" by setting the .fmx file type to be open with ifrun60.exe and the .rep file type to be open with rwrun60.exe, Can i use any oracle client version newer than 6.0 software to run this test program ?

2) What is the latest Oracle Developer version that support .fmx & .rep file type and can run on windows 8.1 x64 x32 ?
3) Can any of the Oracle Developer version run on Windows Server 2012 R2 ?
4) Or do i need to download Oracle Forms and Reports 11g Release 2 ?

Thank you.

I downloaded Oracle Developer Suite 10g (10.1.2.0.2)for Microsoft Windows, and tried to install it, got this message:

/forum/fa/11762/0/

I tried setting the compatible mode to windows 7, which failed, because win7 is part of the 6.x family.

First, please read and follow the forum guidelines: do not post images, some people work in locations where it is impossible or forbidden to download them. Use copy/paste to capture the cmd prompt session, and use [code] tags to keep the formatting.

Your problem with the operating system version being rejected by OUI is well known. You need to edit the oraparam.ini file. You will see that it has list of acceptable versions, 5.0/5.1/5.2 and so on. Add you version of Windows (which seems to be 6.2, I'm using windows 8.1 which is version 6.3) to the list, and OUI will then let you proceed.

Ok, Thanks and sorry about the pic, when i saw the rule about the code [], i thought that if i have code to post i should use it.

I found the oraparam.ini in the install direcory, but i am not using the setup.exe from that direcory, i am using the setup.exe from the root of the CD, is this ok?

can you look at http://www.orafaq.com/forum/mv/msg/191955/609947/#msg_609947.

BTW: if i have a GUI error message can i post a like to the picture, like from tinypic.com?

sorry, not an actual CD, but folder disk1(cd size 6?? MB) disk2( 28? MB)

I did the mod for oraparam.ini from install\, but had to mod the oraparam.ini from wsf-fullinstall\install\win32\ as well, but still failing. will post link to pic if you need them.

this picture is after i mod the 1st file in install\oraparam.ini
http://i62.tinypic.com/amy3d0.png

This tell me that i need to run the wsf.exe from root, i did but it gave me the same error about version number failed, so i search for the any oraparam.ini file that may be related to wsf and found this file wsf-fullinstall\install\win32\oraparam.ini, so i mod this file as well, but then got this error:

http://i57.tinypic.com/2eltq53.jpg

So, i am totally loss, as to why this is not working !!!!

do you know how to installed "Oracle Forms and Reports 11g Release 2" on windows 8/8.1/2012R2 ?
I downloaded the 4 disk folders and when I try to install it:
I reach the "Installation Location" and getting error about "Enter a valid Weblogic home location, now this is the first time I am installing this product, why do I needed a weblogic server, if I just want to client side software to run a program that was running using the Oracle Developer 6.0 client?

Do you know of any step-by-step how-to for installing "Oracle Forms and Reports 11g Release 2" ?
or

I don't know how to install it, at least not from my own experience as I'm still on Forms 10g which runs on MS Windows XP. However, I believe that this Oracle product (you are interested in) contains Installation Guide which describes every step you need to perform in order to successfully install it on a target operating system. Although it is possible to install it on unsupported operating system, there's no guarantee that every component will work as expected so - more or less, you're on your own, you can't expect official support from Oracle, which means that you'll depend on suggestions you find on forums, blogs and similar sources.

As of your question regarding Weblogic server and similarity with client-server based Forms 6i version: once again, I don't use Forms version you'd like to. But, if it is similar to Forms 10g, here's how it goes: locally (on your PC) you have to start OC4J instance which allows you to run a form you develop. If you want to publish (deploy) your application, you need to have an application server (in 10g version) or Weblogic server (in your version). I *think* that it isn't necessary to install Weblogic server just for development purposes. Besides, this is most probably not a simple and easy task at all. As 6i version is the last client-server version (which, by the way, can be deployed on the web as well), you can't distribute your Forms 11g application in a client-server environment. Users will have to access the application on the web which, in turn, means that you (or they) will really need to purchase both the database AND Weblogic server.

Back to your previous question (regarding Forms 6i installation on MS Windows 8): it is not supported. I've read that people managed to do that, but that's not a straightforward task. I don't have a walkthrough so you'll either have to wait until someone else answers your question, or search the Internet. As of me: I prefer the option of installing a virtual machine onto my MS Windows 7 (I don't have Windows 8 yet) computer, put Windows XP SP3 on virtual machine, install Oracle Developer Suite on XP and develop forms & reports. It works fine, it is certified (although not supported any more) - no problem at all.

Thanks, i will look-into the virtual machine path.

BTW: are you using Oracle Developer Suite 10g, or just Forms 10g
only link i can find on oracle is http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/developer-tools/developer-suite/downloads/index.html
which is Oracle Developer Suite 10g (10.1.2.0.2). Which can't be installed on windows 8/8.1 even with the oraparam.ini mod.
the document page for this version is blank, http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/developer-tools/developer-suite/documentation/index.html

I can get oracle Developer 6.0 run on wiundows 8/8.1 using VMware ThinApp v5, but i can't print, everything else works.
it's about 205MB is size. It starts the print, but the windows print service does not received any data.

Quote:
(6i version, which, by the way, can be deployed on the web as well)

can you give me any more info on this topic ?

Thanks, will look at these link in a few mins.

Can you send me the link for the "Forms & Reports 10g", because all i can find on oracle site is http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/developer-tools/developer-suite/downloads/101202winsoft-087370.html
And that's the full suite.

And you said that you use Win Xp, will you move up, like win7/8/8.1 ?

There's no separate Forms & Reports installation - download the whole Developer Suite and install only components you are interested in.

As of me moving to newer operating systems: my host OS is currently Windows 7, but company I work for is still uses Forms 10g applications so there's no point in me moving on until they decide to upgrade. When (if at all) will they do that, I have no idea.

Downloaded the 2 zip file from oracle
connected them to a virtualbox windows xp sp3.
I am given only 2 option:
1) J2EE Development(765MB)
2) Complete (1.11GB)

option2, is the only one that have Forms & Reports, but you can't select, you have to installed every thing.

I will do that just to test if my program, that is running on a RedHat AS 2.1 Oracle 8i server, will function.

There's no equivalent in 10g. This (10g) version works only on web (i.e. you open the form via web browser, such as Internet Explorer). For development purposes, first start OC4J instance (you'll find it in Forms start menu). For production purposes, you (i.e. your client) will have to buy and install application server whose forms and reports services will be used to run your application.

did a few test, did not know how to use this product, and still finding it hard to use, anyway
I started the OC4J Instance, it say "initialized"
then I selected, from the FORMS DEV menu, "Run a Form on Web"

Form: q:\forms\mytest_st.fmx
Userid:
Config: default
Look and Feel: Oracle
Color scheme: Blue
Other Parameters: useSDI=yes
Web host: localhost
Web port: 8892

error:
FRM-40011: Form was created by an old version of Form Builder.

I then tried the one that came with oracle dev 10g
c:\DevSuiteHome_1\forms\test.fmx
and that work, you have to install a plug-in, but after that it works find
it does not do mush, just displayed "Installed successfully!"

with my 6i client install, I have to replace 2 files and modify the registry:
1. c:\ORAWNT\net80\admin\tnsnames.ora
2. c:\ORAWNT\forms60\Fmrusw.res
3. RegWinXp.reg

tnsnames.ora is a test file:
 MYTEST.world =
   (DESCRIPTION =
     (ADDRESS_LIST =
        (ADDRESS =
          (PROTOCOL = TCP)
          (Host = linuxserv)
          (Port = 1521)
         )
      )
      (CONNECT_DATA = (SID = MYTEST)
      )
    )

Then I have to manually associates these file extension to:
1. .fmx to c:\ORAWNT\bin\ifrun60.exe
2. .rep to c:\ORAWNT\bin\rwrun60.exe

then map a drive to the redhat AS 2.1 oracle 8i share that has the Forms.
map q: to \\linxserv\eqcode

then create a shortcut on my desktop to q:\forms\mytest.fmx

Question:

1) is there a was to convert old .fmx to newer .fmx file type?
2) is there a way to make Forms 10g run 6i .fmx files?
3) Where can I get a copy of this "Application Server with Forms & Reports services" to test my application to see if it will work.
4) If none of these options works, can you suggest any alternative ?

Thanks

Let me try:
1. No, you have to open the .fmb file in forms developer and then compile it to get a new .fmx file. do you not have the original .fmb?
2. No, as far as I know.
3. Yikes! Installing application server is a task no one would want to do unless they have massive experience. I hare dealing with it, 7 years after I have been using it. It is very difficult to configure, at least for me.

If you are (just) a developer, then do that - develop forms and make sure they work fine. There are other people who are payed to configure the production environment, and they will install and configure application server, just as you have DBAs who take care about a database server. Although you probably could do all of that, I think that "one man show" time is behind us - there's just too many things and you have to put a lot of effort to master them all.

For example, the old Oracle 7 and Forms 3.0 (still running in character mode), up to Forms 6i (the last client-server version) could have been handled by a single person. Since then, things have turned to be too complex, at least that's how I feel about it.
