I am Not sure why the special character being added either; but I can assure you that Oracle is only doing what you configured it to do.

Both are Oracle version - 11.2.0.3

here is the db name from both servers

Source DB

SQL> select dbid , DB_UNIQUE_NAME, name from v$database;

DBID DB_UNIQUE_NAME NAME
---------- ------------------------------ ---------
448780291 orcl ORCL

Target DB (Standby DB)

SQL> select dbid , DB_UNIQUE_NAME, name from v$database;

DBID DB_UNIQUE_NAME NAME
---------- ------------------------------ ---------
448780291 stdby ORCL

So not sure where is the dbname getting picked up from?

I think BlackSwan's post clearly

BlackSwan

but I can assure you that Oracle is only doing what you configured it to do

What's your configuration before? Post the log and may be it contain the problem.
