Hi All,

Unable to connect to database getting below error,Please help

sqlplus sys/oracle@server_name/orcl

ERROR:
ORA-12518: TNS:listener could not hand off client connection

The database is down.
Start it... from the database server.

Thanks Michel,

Earlier when i was trying to startup from database server i was getting
ORA-12560: TNS:protocol adapter error


I restarted all the services and it worked

You had not set ORACLE_HOME and/or ORACLE_SID and so on.

1.the correct way to connect the db from remote server: sqlplus username/password@tns_connect

2.logon on the db server, use "sqlplus / as sysdba" to connect the instance

1. It is ONE way not the only correct one. OP's one is also correct.
2. Only if OS authentication is enabled.
