How do you mean, "open"? FMX is executable, you can't open it in Forms Builder (if that's what you are asking) - you'd need a FMB file to do that.

Application server, its Forms services, is responsible for that kind of a job. Do you have it?

So how do you run your applications, without having a server?

If available, it (just like any other Oracle software) can be downloaded from the OTN's Download section. I have never installed it, but - as far as I read - this is rather complex process and you'll have to read a LOT of documentation before you make it work.

the problem is that when i use oracle 6i the .fmx file is executable ( because in the oradevsuitehome/bin folder there is a frun.exe file) but when i use oracle xe or orace 10g .fmx files are not executable but al .fmb files are executable..

Forms 6i are the last client-server version; and yes, you can run a 6i form using a EXE you mentioned).

From 9i onwards, forms run on the web and you can't run them with EXE as you used to with the 6i version.

So, that's not really a "problem", it is just the way Forms 10g work. If you don't like that, consider switching back to client-server (i.e. 6i).

As Littlefoot said, it is very difficult to install and configure. I did it once about 5 years ago and never did one again due to the pain it caused me. A 10g .fmx cannot just be given to a client. They will need to spend multiple thousands of dollars for an application server in order to comply with proper licensing (or set up a connection to YOUR application server which you must pay the same multiple thousands of dollars for, set up proper security, etc.)
It is a task that without experience of already doing it, I would not want to try.

Unless I'm wrong, 11g uses WebLogic server (which is - as far as you are concerned - more or less the same as the application server). Client-server (i.e. 6i technology) in recent Oracle versions is DEAD.
