hi,
i have a listener configured on default port 1521 and i wanted to change it. i did following:-

1. stop the listener through lsnrctl stop
2.change the port number in tnsnames.ora and listener.ora and save both files.
3.now i start the listener as lsnrctl start
4.it started successfully but saying that it cannot register to instance.
5.i connect sqlplus / as sysdba and execute "Alter system register" and "System Altered"

but even then the listener is not registering.

kindly help

Regards

Listeners NEVER* "register".
Instances register with listener.

Since we really do not know what you did do, we can not say what you did wrong (or not do right).

Is COPY & PASTE broken for you?

If you go back to using port #1521, does the instance register itself?

Consider staying with what works.
Nothing is gained by changing listener port number.

12569, 00000, "TNS:packet checksum failure"
// *Cause: The data received is not the same as the data sent.
// *Action: Attempt the transaction again. If the error is persistent, turn
// on tracing and reexecute the operation.

when was last time SQL*net worked without error?
What changed since then?
Why do you think that changing the port # will fix this problem?
root cause exists at OS/Networking level & external to Oracle.
