Thanks for the help...
replacing that single line of code that you corrected resolved the error, so perhaps it isnt accurately reflecting what was wrong with the code.

As far as the chars, I don't really have alot of control in them, the data exists elsewhere and I will receive only a DTS of it (when the people on that end are ready)... I am merely trying to get the database mirrored into oracle so we can begin coding on this end.

The items that are in char(x) datatypes are all fixed width codes (ISO mostly) and are either full or blank.
