I'm not sure I understood what you said. You showed us what kind of an output you'd like to get. Could you post a screenshot of the current output (so that we would see the difference and, hopefully, suggest an approach)?

I see ...

Here's one option:
  • horizontally enlarge the outmost frame so that it would be capable of holding data sets in two "columns"
  • vertically, enlarge it so that it is capable of holding 20 records vertically. Set its "Vertical elasticity" to "Fixed"
  • set repeating frame's "Print Direction" property to "Down/Across"
  • set repeating frame's "Maximum Records per Page" to 40
  • run the report
This is the result; I hope that this is what you are looking for.

Eh? There's no result at all, only the title.

This is not the same as your first screenshot.

The rightmost (empty) column is too wide and the report can never fit two parallel triples (STT + SLIP_NO + PALLET_DATE).

You attached the same screenshot as in the initial post, so I can't see what you actually mean.

Anyway: if there are only 4 records, obviously you can't display 40 of them as 36 records simply don't exist. So what's the problem?

I see; basically, you always want to "draw" the whole table, but fill only existing records.

As far as I can tell, it isn't an easy task in Reports. There's no problem in displaying field's (row's) border lines, but - it is done only for displayed records (in your case, 3 of them). Now, thinking aloud. In order to create empty table cells, you'd have to UNION your query with a dummy one that would be used as a row generator and create up to 40 dummy records. These records should be easily distinguished (such as "ID = -999", "NAME = '$XXX$'" or similar non-existing values. Why? So that you could use conditional formatting and paint these values "white" (i.e. background color - if a paper is white, that would be white color). Report would then display these records, but they would be virtually invisible.

I have no idea whether it is actually a feasible solution. Maybe someone else has a far better idea; I can't think of anything else (I suppose pre-printed paper is not an option?).
