hi,
i am using fedora in that i had installed oracle 10g express edition and from last few days i used it successfully from morning
am facing problem to login in to database.and when am connecting sql*plus to database after entering username and password am getting this below
error err01033:oracle initialization or shutdown in progress

can you help me any one how to resolve this error

1/ Check alert.log file to know if there was any problem.
2/ Connect as sysdba and shut down and restart the database.

if i connect to / sys dba what should be the password given to the sys dba and how to check alert.log files

"alert.log" is in the directory pointed by "background_dump_dest" parameter.
If you don't know there use "find / -name 'alert*log' -ls".

If you are OS connected with an account that is in the dba group you don't need any password to connect as sysdba, just use "/ as sysdba"
