Hi

here's my rdbms spec:

SYS@cta>select * from v$version;

BANNER
----------------------------------------------------------------
Oracle Database 10g Enterprise Edition Release 10.2.0.4.0 - Prod
PL/SQL Release 10.2.0.4.0 - Production
CORE    10.2.0.4.0      Production
TNS for 32-bit Windows: Version 10.2.0.4.0 - Production
NLSRTL Version 10.2.0.4.0 - Production

I have originally configured a physical standby database configuration correctly.

orginally

primary db physical standby db
cta cta_std

later

primary db physical standby db
cta_std cta

After I performed a failed over using data guard broker.

it failover successfully.

when I tried to reinstate the former primary db as a physical standby database using the data guard broker, it fails.

so I disable the data guard broker configuration.

so I used the instructions from http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14239/scenarios.htm#i1050055

Flashing Back a Failed Primary Database into a Physical Standby Database

to flashback the new physical standby database manually.

to my surprise it din error out any thing!

I tried all the troubleshooting guide with respect to the above,

http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14239/troubleshooting.htm#i634242

as you can see something is really wrong here.

according to http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14239/troubleshooting.htm#i634242

Quote:

You used an invalid backup as the basis for the standby database (for example, you used a backup from the wrong database, or did not create the standby control file using the correct method).

In fact i re-create the physical standby base according to http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14239/create_ps.htm#i67520
Quote:

Step-by-Step Instructions for Creating a Physical Standby Database

but the problem still persists.

what could be wrong, what should be the next best solution?

but judging from the log there's a couple of switchovers performed the two servers.

also I used only a recovery catalog to catalog both primary and standby, you can't register both db in one recovery catalog since they both share the same dbid,

when I do the crosscheck command

on the new standby db

RMAN> crosscheck copy of database;

RMAN>

any files that is in the subdiredirectory fails D:\ORA102\CTA\RECOVERY_FILE_DEST\CTASTD\

i,e.

Quote:

validation failed for datafile copy
datafile copy filename=D:\ORA102\CTA\RECOVERY_FILE_DEST\CTASTD\DATAFILE\SYSTEM01
.DBF recid=58 stamp=759267132

but when I do a crosschek in the new primary, i,e, ctastd

Quote:

RMAN> crosscheck backup of database;

using channel ORA_DISK_1
crosschecked backup piece: found to be 'EXPIRED'
backup piece handle=D:\ORA102\CTA\RECOVERY_FILE_DEST\CTA\BACKUPSET\2011_08_15\
_MF_NNNDF_CTA_20110815_1058_74K2VY1G_.BKP recid=95 stamp=759275128
Crosschecked 1 objects

the reverse happens!

any backup in D:\ORA102\CTA\RECOVERY_FILE_DEST\CTA\BACKUPSET\ becomes invalid!
