Hi All!
I have installed and loaded a mssql\express database on my pc for migration testing. When I test a connection from sqldeveloper 3 receive "Failure -Test failed Cannot connect to Microsoft SQL Server on localhost. I am using windows authentication and SQL Server authentication and the default port 1433. And it is 1433.
Thanks in advance

What steps did you take? Does this blog entry help?

Thank you for response.
I've installed third party JDBC drives for SQL Server and I have SQLServer tab on Oracle SQLDeveloper. I've seen the blog you have pointed to. But I found it confusing to set the name of connection as name of one of databases of the SQL Server (as I understood it). I certainly will try now.

I've installed SQL Server 2008 (No "express"!) on another PC. Enabled port 1433. Ping works. But problem hadn't gone.
May be:
1. User I used (sa) doesn't have needed privileges? What to use?
2. I steel don't have access to port 1433. How to check?
3. Firewall is blocking access. What exactly should I do in it (Firewall user interface don't offer me SQLServer in its lists).
Hope answer is in this scope.

Thank you Littlefoot!
Finally I found msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms190944.aspx
(I cannot use links until I have posted more than 5 messages)
And did the next steps:
1. Enabled MSSQLSERVER->TCP/IP protocols.
2. Opened port 1433 in the Windows firewall for TCP to access Database Engine.
3. Opened port 1434 in the Windows firewall for UDP to access SQL Server Browser.
4. Activated SQL Server Browser.
5. Named connection "MSSQLSERVER".
It can be I did unneeded steps, but it works now.
Thank you for you help.
Best regards!
