When I try to start up my Oracle db, I get the message: Oracle initialization in progress or shutdown.
I have tried to log on several times, each time on another day, but the message stays.
What is the cause of this and how can I solve the problem?
And how can I avoid this in the future?

1. reboot the system.
2. try starting database manually.
3. in case of UNIX systems, make sure u have set the
parameters properly.
