Hi Gurus,

I have a question about delete archived log in RMAN after backed up them. I found at least 2 methods to do it.
1. RMAN > Backup archive log xxxx;
RMAN > Change archived log from xxx until xxx delete;
2. RMAN > Backup archive log all delete input;

What is the difference of them? If they do same job, which one is better during backup?

Thanks!
Edgy

1. backup log(s) you mentioned, 2. backup all archived logs and then delete them.

No one is better, each one does something different.

Thank you Michel for explanation. So that means no any prefeable solution from Oralce view, as I prefer to the 2nd one since it does deletetion job on one statement and ganrentee that deleted files are backed up.

It guarantees that RMAN receives an acknowlegment from the target "device" that the logs are backed up.
It does not guarantee that the backup itself is correct.

Yes, you are right. Only ganrantee is the file is backed up.

If wants to know if the backup itself is correct, the only way is do validation, right?
